The next Clare Comedy night is on Sunday 13th May 2007
The headliners will be Matt Whiteley and Rob Alderson
Matt Whiteley:
A cheeky banter-merchant, he honed his odd view of the world on the fertile slopes of the Cambridge comedy
scene so many years ago. Since his 4-star Edinburgh show in 2005, his mix of clever one-liners and surreal
stories has seen him entertaining huge crowds up and down the country, and supporting some great comedy talent
such as Josie Long, Rhys Darby, Andy Zaltzmann and Will Hodgson on the London circuit.
'A Confident performer...his one liners were very fine indeed' - Chortle
'Wow, he's good, isn't he' - Stephen K. Amos
'A comedy masterpiece that will have you demanding your hour back just so you can see it again' - ThreeWeeks
Winner, Comedy Cafe Act Night - April 2007
Semi-Finalist - Jongleurs/Samsung Stand-Up Competition - 2005
Semi-Finalist -Channel 4's "So You Think You're Funny" - 2004
Rob Alderson:
Rob spent two years with the Oxford Imps improv troupe before the masochistic delights of stand up comedy came
calling. In 2006 he reached the semi final of "So You Think Your Funny?" and in autumn that year became the
resident compere for Edinburgh Fringe Fixture The Free Beer Show's weekly Oxford gig. In this capacity he has had the good fortune to work with some of the top comedians in the country including Richard Herring, Russell Howard, Reginald D Hunter, Gordon Southern and Nick Revell. He has clocked up well over 100 gigs in London and beyond where his pacey delivery and smart material has been unleashed on every kind of room from rowdy student unions to initially bewildered market town pubs. In May 2007 he will compete in the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year final.
"Quick, slick and high energy - certainly a name to watch out for on the London circuit." Oxford Daily Info
"Confident, good material...should go far" Martin Mullaney, Cheeky Monkey Comedy Club/Comedy CV
On the Free Beer Show - " his lively and hilarious repartee with the audience has become a mainstay of the club." Oxford Times
As ever, it will cost £2 on the door and will start at 9pm in the
Clare Cellars
(underneath the
Chapel
in Clare Old Court).
For the uninitiated: this will consist of five or six student acts and then
a headliner from London, with Matt Kirshen
as compère.
The bar is next door. Clare Comedy is always popular, so arrive early if
you don't want to end up sitting behind an especially non-hilarious
seventeenth century pillar.
